Anapokuwa kazini tulikuwa na mfanyakazi ambaye alikuwa akinisaidia kama kunikausha maji lakini alikuwa hawezi kuninyanyua hivyo kazi zote za kunibadilisha na kunisafisha ilikuwa juu ya mume wangu.

Nilitulia kidogo na kumuambia “Lakini wewe ni mwanaume, unahisia, sisi wanawake tunaweza kuvumilia, lakini wewe ni mwanaume, wazazi wako wanataka wajukuu, mimi siwezi kupona leo wala kesho oa mwanamke mwingine hata kama hutaniacha nitafurahi kukuona unafuraha…” Nilijitahidi kujibu kwa sauti ya kutetemeka na ya kukata tamaa. Bashiri aliniangalia machoni kwa muda mrefu kisha akaniuliza.

Miaka miwili ilipita hali yangu ikiwa bado haijatengamaa, nilitamani kukata tamaa lakini kila siku mume wangu alinipa nguvu ya kuendelea kupambana. Tulienda kwennye maombi na kutumia dawa mbalimbali za hospitalini na za kienyeji lakini haikusaidia. Watu wengi waliamini nimelogwa lakini kutokana na imani tulimkabidhi Mungu awe muamuzi wa yote.
Siku moja mume wangu alikuja na Mzee mmoja pale nyumbani, wakati huo sikua najua alimpatia wapi lakini yule mzee alikaa nyumbani pale kwa miezi sita akiondoka mara moja moja na kukaa kama siku nne tano na kurejea. Alikuwa akija na dawa za kienyeji za kunikanda, kunichemshia na kunywa, dawa zilikuwa chungu na kusema keli ilikuwa kama adhabu kwani ilikuwa kutwa mara tatu na kukandwa tena dawa za moto.
Ukichanganya na maumivu basi ilikuwa kazi sana lakini sikua na namna nilivumilia. Kweli miezi sita ile nilianza kupata nafuu, maumivu yaliisha kabisa ingawa bado nilikuwa siwezi kunyanyuka, miguu haikuwa ikitoa maji tena wala kukakamaa niliweza kukunja lakini sikuwa na nguvu ya kusimama. Baada ya kupata nafuu ile yule mzee alituambia kuwa ameshafanya yake yaliyo ndani ya uwezo wake sasa kilichobaki ni kumuachia Mungu, alinipa dawa za kunywa na kumpa mume wangu jukumu la kunifanyisha mazoezi.
Hali yangu ilianza kutengamaa, kila siku asubuhi na jioni mume wangu alikuwa akinifanyisha mazoezi. Kwa mara yakwanza tangu kuingia kwenye ndoa, niliweza kumuangalia mume wangu na kuanza kumuona kama alivyo bila maumivu. Siku moja wakati akinifanyisha mazoezi, nilimkodolea macho, alikuwa amekonda kupita kiasi, kusema kweli kila siku nilikuwa naye lakini siku ile ndiyo niliona tofauti.
Yaani alikuwa amepungua na kuwa kama mtoto, uso wake ulionekana hauna nuru ingawa kila mara alikuwa akilazimishia tabasamu lakini alionekana kweli na mawazo. Nilijipa moyo nikiamini labda ni sababu ya ugonjwa wangu ndiyo ulikuwa unammaliza kutokana na mawazo, siku nilimuomba kuangalia picha zetu za harusi kweli alikuwa amekonda sana kuliko hata nilivyowaza awali.
Nilishindwa kuvumilia na kumuuliza nini kilikuwa kinamsumbua tofauti na hali yangu, aliishia kutabsamu na kusema hakuna kitu ni maisha tu nikipona na yeye atakuwa sawa. Lakini ukweli mume wangu hakuja kuwa sawa tena. Sikumoja mume wangu aliingia chumbani, nilishaanza kupata nafuu ingawa bado nilikuwa siwezi kunyanyuka wala kufanya chochote.
Alionekana kuwa na huzuni kuliko kawaida yake, ingawa alijaribu kutabasmau lakini nilimuona kabisa akilengwa lengwa na machozi. Aliongea na kunikalisha kitandani kisha nayeye akakaa pembeni yangu na kuniambia. “Mke wangu kuna kitu naomba unisaidie, yaani uniahidi kukifanya, nakuomba sana unahidi kitu hicho na hata iweje usijekubadilisha mawazo, naomba sana…”
Aliongea huku akilengwa lengwa kwa machozi, nilimuambia hakuna hata haja ya kuuliza nilikuwa tayari kufanya kitu chochote. Alisisitiza niahidi kufanya na mimi niliahidi huku nikinyanyua mikono yangu kumkumbatia. “Mke wangu naomba nikifa uolewe tena na kama Mungu akikujalia mtoto basi kama ni wakiume umpe jina langu na kama ni wakike basi jina la kati liwe la kwangu…”
Aliongea machozi yakimtoka, sikutaka kumsikiliza kwanini anaongelea kufa nilijaribu kumtuliza lakini aliniomba ni muahidi hicho kitu. Alirudia zaidi ya mara kumi ndipo nilipomuahidi kua nitafanya hivyo. Baada ya kumuahidi aliniambia kuwa yeye hawezi ishi mdua mrefu, aliamua kunificha lakini anajua hana muda hivyo kuamua kuniambia. Mwaka mmoja uliopita aligundulika kuwa ana kansa na ilikuwa katika hatua mbaya.
Hakutaka kuniambia kutokana na ugonjwa wangu lakini Daktari aliyekuwa anamhudumia alimuambia kuwa hana zaidi ya mwaka ila mpaka wakati ananiambia ilikua ni karibu miaka mwili kitu ambacho ilikuwa ni kama miujiza.
